THE BASIC CHRISTIAN ETHIC
Jesus, the Pope and I all agree that Christians’ primary obligation is to care for hungry, widows, the poor and the sick. Many Republicans, Tea Party members and citizens of the blue states are Christians. It is odd to me that many don’t see the connection of basic Christianity to the Affordable Health Care legislation designed to help millions of poorer Americans to healing of the sick.
Critics say, “We can’t afford it.” Proponents say the act will save money in the long run. Politicians seldom mention helping the sick and suffering. It is painful that so many Christians see health care bill as about money and not about compassion.

The Affordable Care Act is essentially a Republican, big business, for-profit approach to providing universal health care. The irony is that Tea Party people are trying to kill it. This is because Republicans of all stripes are against programs that provide benefits for the poor. This has always been the case. They represent the selfish interests of the wealthy. Medicare for all, financed by increased taxes, is the way to go. To get there, Republicans should be soundly defeated at the polls in 2014 and 2016, returning both houses to the Democrats and electing a liberal, rather than a moderate Democratic President. Wake up, America! Your health and the national economy are at stake. Christians should see this as something they are called to do, care for those in need and see that everyone is provided with essential health care.
Well said Fred
I'm a Brit. Over here we have a brutal govt currently looking to stop our socialised (read subsidised by taxpayers) healthcare. It will be a terrible tragedy if we lose our National Health Service esp for the sick and elderly of course
terrifying watching this unfold...
Please refrain from labeling all republicans as selfish and I'll refrain from calling all democrats stupid. Labels are what have caused this great divide in America. Bigotry has many stripes. And tolerance is not a one way street. Open your mind. Christians are taught to care for one another. There are other ways of doing that than through govt intervention. Ask Rev. Cromey or Rev Williams about the generosity if the human heart. It's thru individual kindness. Not the govt. let healthy competition play out. Healthcare for all. We've seen what happens when the govt tries to intervene. 5 million cancelled policies. How is that Christian?
