JESUS HISTORY STORY

 Dear Ian,

You said you stopped being believer when you could no longer believe in miracles, walking on water, perhaps virgin birth and others. Apparently you and many others think those events were history.
I don’t believe in them because they are not historical events. They are stories trying to show the power that Jesus may have had. The healing miracles and raising the dead are stories about Jesus as a healer. Walking on water and feeding 500 were stories of miraculous power. They did not happen in history, they are stories trying to indicate the power and influence of Jesus.
The church was trying to figure out the unique character of Jesus. They came up with the conundrum and Jesus was truly human and truly God. This is a theory about Jesus not an event that happened in history. It is conjecture that church leaders came up with.
One of my essential beliefs is that Jesus showed us how to be truly human. We are most human when we care for others, when we care the poor, the sick and those who suffer injustice.
The most human people I think of are Mother Teresa, Gandhi, MLK Jr., Dorothy Day and there are others. Working to make money and power result in less than human beings.
