Older Americans and the Health Care Package

Republicans make a strategic mistake by appealing to older Americans to fear the costs of the president’s medical reform bill. (SF Chronicle, August 25, 2009) Some of us remember the depression of the 30’s very well. Our parents were distressed by no help in paying for medical care then when they became unemployed. We were old enough not be fooled by the me generation values of the eighties and nineties. We lead all Americans in responding generously to help victims of earthquakes, fire and flood through out the United States and the world. Most older Americans know the suffering and costs of not insuring forty-five American children and adults.

As we mourn the death of the great champion for healthcare, may there be a renewed spirit and sense of purpose to move the work forward.
